After growing up in Adelaide, I studied drama in Launceston and, improbably, went straight into some professional acting work in Tasmania and South Australia. Deluded into thinking I was the next DeNiro, I spent the following years combining occasional small acting roles with a grab-bag of backstage jobs before stepping aside from this glittering career and focusing on writing.
As a scriptwriter, I’ve had plays staged independently in Melbourne and Sydney and a radio drama produced by ABC Radio National. In 2001, I won an Australian Writer’s Guild ‘AWGIE’ for my SBS teleplay ‘Wee Jimmy’.
In parallel with performance writing, I have worked as a freelance professional copywriter for 20 years, servicing a diverse range of clients, from individual operators to corporate behemoths, in a wide array of sectors. I have written advertising, glossy brochures, TV commercial and animation scripts, websites, food labels, magazine articles and company profiles. I’ve also edited a wide variety of written material.
As well as advising on a number of film scripts, I recently completed my own feature film screenplay ‘The Perimeter’, which no doubt sometime soon will be appearing at an independent arthouse theatre or YouTube channel near you.
